A Study on Realities of the Cognition of Postpartum Care and Postpartum Disease


Abstract
One hundred women of experience of parturition were sampled out to get responses from them on what cognition is had of postpartum care and on what level it is practised and what aspects are represented from their postpartum disease. Furthermore, women of no experience of parturition were asked to respond to questions of a questionnaire used with the same contents as shown in the paper of Kang et al. The results of survey were directly compared and the resultant findings were revealed as follows:
1. As regards the question as to whether or not the necessity is needed for special postpartum care different from ordinary care routines, 96 percent of them represented ¢¥needed¢¥, which indicates a response higher than 85 percent, as shown in the survey of Kang et al.
2. As a result of having investigated the presence or absence of sufficient postpartum care , it was revealed that 75 percent of respondents reflected having gone through hardships in postpartum care, and that there are close correlations between the presence or absence of postpartum care and postpartum health.
3. The result of multiple choices among the most difficult tasks in practising postpartum care is disclosed 27 percent in the question as to ¢¥postpartum stability, rest, and exercise control¢¥, which indicated the first priority of difficulty in the respondents¢¥ postpartum care. Next came postpartum mental depression, and psychological stability as the second priority, and then the emaciation of physical strength, anemia, and nutrition by breast-feeding as the third priority.
4. Varied models of differentiation of symptoms and signs are recommended to be developed on postpartum disease in clinical practice, and concurrently with this, systematic researches based on thorough literature reviews and clinical tests of possible prescriptions are desired to be prosecuted continuously.
5. 90 percent of those women of experience of parturition cognize that they need three to eight weeks of postpartum care, and both groups expressed a high ratio in taking their home as the place of postpartum care.
6. 70 percent of the women respondents of experience of parturition point out specialized organs for postpartum care. The result of having conducted a survey of preference for an ideal operation type of postpartum care facilities make the best choice in both groups of ¢¥the existing postpartum care institutions with dependence upon medical institutions when necessary¢¥ and of ¢¥the type that is operated by ¢¥Oriental medicine hospitals.¢¥
7. 42 percent of the respondents have experience of having utilized an oriental medicine treatment for postpartum care.
8. Many respondents were found to have the traditional conception that herb medicine, acupuncture and moxibustion are conducive to reinforcing the weakened body as well as against postpartum dropsy.
9. Both groups wish almost consistent improvements in Oriental medicine hospitals. That is, it is recommended that diversified improvements will be made in the security of adequate propagation paths for Oriental medical treatment, suggestion of descriptive methods by which Oriental medical diagnosis and treatment could be understood with ease by the general public, concrete researches in conveniences of use of Oriental medical institutions, their moderate cost, improvements in related facilities, etc.
